Discover Movie Colony
Comprised of only about 170 homes, The Movie Colony is ideally located a short walking distance from Downtown Palm Springs. This centrally located community is the site of some of the oldest and most famous homes in Palm Springs designed by famous architects like Walker & Eisen, E. Stewart Williams, William Cody, and Donald Wexler.
As the name of this neighborhood suggests, this area was once the chosen locale of Old Hollywood's most famous stars. They chose this neighborhood to live in because of the privacy they had behind the high walls of the estates. Cary Grant, Marilyn Monroe, Harold Lloyd, Tony Curtis, and Dinah Shore all once called this neighborhood home.
Large estates started to pop up in this neighborhood as early as 1925. Over the years, these incredible homes have been lovingly maintained and meticulously updated to keep them current with modern times. Exteriors adopt a diverse range of architecture styles ranging from the clean white lines of the mid-century modern home to the tile-embellished Spanish home, to the relaxed manner of the California Ranch home.
Inside, each home has a unique character that is usually dictated by the home's style. Older, Spanish homes generally feature the warmth of hand made tiles and iron and wood work. Others are classic mid-century homes with open-concept designs, clean lines, and floor-to-ceiling windows designed to encourage residents to connect with nature.
